Breakout was formed over five years ago with a view to enhancing the skills of each of the members and to workshop a relatively small playlist within a collegiate environment. It is a rare week when the weekly four-hour rehearsal does not happen. After a few months there was a need to present the body of work to audiences. To this end the group has performed at several of the Castlemaine and Port Fairy Festivals as well as doing a number of gigs around Melbourne. The band plays a number of jazz standards plus some lesser-known jazz pieces as well as a number of originals penned by the guitarist and pianist.
